Mark Wright Confirmed as new 1st Team manager
The committee and everyone at the club are delighted that Mark Wright has agreed to take on the role as First team manger with the immediate effect. Due to this change Mark with be stepping down from his role as Chairman with Sam Foster stepping up from the Vice Chairman role.
Mark has be also over seeing all football affairs in his role of Director of football over seeing the u23’s, u18, and u16s. A number of these young players have already been a key part of the first team this season.
The club has a very clear plan and vision of where we should be, where we want to be and the style of football that we want to be playing. These are all things that Mark has worked with the teams below the first team. Due to this it’s felt that he was the natural and best person to Steady the ship and start embedding these Ethos and vision into the 1st team.
Alfold feel it’s a very exciting team for the club overall and the direction it’s going. The committee would also like to thank Mark and his team for taking on the role, wish them all the best for their hard work ahead and the rest of the season.
Statement from Mark Wright
Having arrived at the club some 18months ago as Head of Youth Football I have taken on various roles already over this short period all in the best interests of the club, like on the pitch off the pitch is no different & the club must always come before self interest of an individual.
As such the club took the decision to relieve the current 1st team management of their duties and have agreed to take on the role until the end of the season where as a club we can reevaluate how we then best move forwards.
Having agreed to take on the role I have stepped down as Chairman with immediate effect to maintain the integrity of the club and to ensure I am held accountable as we would any other management team.
I have brought together a new management team that have a clear understanding of our role to ensure we implement the clubs philosophy whilst striving to gain positive results, this is a tough ask but neither should be sacrificed or prioritised as both are fundamental to the longterm future of the club.
The new management team are driven to produce positive results in both areas.
We held our first training session on Tuesday where the players attitudes and responses were fantastic, the squad is a very young one with only 3 to 4 over 23yrs of age which means we have a huge responsibility as a coaching staff to support and provide leadership to the playing group. We believe we have a highly talented group, with hardwork and desire to improve we will be able to start seeing results on the pitch.
We will be working hard on making a few new signings with the right profile that will come in and improve the group, which is then underpinned by the fantastic young players we have coming through the clubs ranks.
We start with two games against top sides in Littlehampton and Saltdean, where they will be clear favourites but these are the games you want to play and be involved in, where we will all be challenged, measure where we are and what we need to do to improve.
My management team will see the return of Ryan Chandler as Coach, Clive Piller as player/assistant manager, Ismael Vasconcelos as assistant manager & Princess Goodwin as Club Physio. In addition to this I am delighted to welcome Danny Fuller to the club from Horsham YMCA who will work closely with us & oversee the U23’s.
Finally when I came to the club it was with a 5year plan which we are less than 2years into, the club is in an extremely healthy situation despite some hurdles we have had to negotiate. We are well on track to achieve the targets and goals that have been set out, we have an outstanding youth set up that will underpin the clubs success for years to come so all at Alfold FC can be excited about the future. As a new management team will do our best to give you something to happy about over the coming months.
